Camino Creativity Pathway

Unlock the transformative power of creativity on your Camino journey with this 10-Day Audio Companion

Think you're not creative?

The Camino de Santiago is a rare opportunity to step out of your usual routines and into a different mode of noticing and awareness. That's fertile ground for creativity. And creativity isn't the same as artistic talent. Creativity is our innate capacity to imagine, make connections, see possibilities and find new ways forward. We begin life as curious, imaginative little beings — we are the embodiment of creativity! But gradually, the pressure to be practical, productive and sensible can push that part of us aside. We learn to value the right answer more than our imagination.

The Camino Creativity Pathway prompts invite you to follow your curiosity, notice what captures your attention, explore what emerges, and play with new ways of seeing.

On the Camino, you are free from the roles, expectations and habits that normally shape your days. This is the gift of space and time that allows you to hear your inner voice a little more clearly and explore your unique way of expressing it.When we cultivate our creativity, we become more open to possibility. We can approach challenges with curiosity rather than immediately settling on the familiar answers. We can make unexpected connections, imagine alternatives, and discover possibilities we might otherwise overlook.

The Camino gives you space to reconnect with this part of yourself — and the Creativity Pathway can help you process your experience and carry the spirit of the Camino home.Creativity invites us to wonder, imagine, explore more deeply and discover new possibilities. Let these ways of thinking and being pave the way forward as you continue your own camino through life

How it works

The Camino Creativity Pathway is a 10-day series of short audio prompts that accompany you as you walk.

Each morning, as you set out, listen to Part One (5-8min) — this is the observation and contemplation piece. It guides you to notice various ways creativity manifests in your Camino environment. At the end of your walking day, listen to Part Two of the audio. You'll be invited to process your day with a small guided creative action or reflection. (15-30 minutes)

Hi, I'm Margret Hefner

In spring 2022, the minute travel re-opened I was on my way to the Camino. I'd had some rough years — major life transitions, grief, and the realization that certain past events continued to have a hold on me.Over the years, I'd read plenty of self-help books and explored many therapy modalities. But it was on the Camino that I discovered that I had access to some wonderfully uncomplicated resources: walking, awareness and a creative mindset. Individually they were powerful. Together, their power multiplied.I suppose I am a creative person. I went to art school, and I have always been a self-employed “creator” in one form or another. But I've often struggled to fully claim that creativity. Self-doubt often manages to outrun it, and I have to remind myself to call it forward. Many pilgrims will say there is something about the Camino that loosens, or frees your mind. Walking with open awareness does this. When I added curiosity, imagination, connection and the other foundations of creativity to the mix, I found that life began to look a whole lot brighter.Over my five-plus decades on this earth, I've been a jewellery designer, chef, writer, gallery owner, tour guide, traveller, mother, podcast host, house-and-petsitter, and a whole host of other things I'm sure I'll remember when I'm trying to get to sleep tonight.I created these prompts from my own experience, inspired by the many creativity and mindfulness teachers I've encountered along the way. They're not meant to be perfect — just helpful. If only one prompt speaks to you, that can spark a shift. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Buen Camino 💛
